One would think a Master’s and Doctorate Degree in Conducting would be enough schooling for anyone, but not for Bruce Kiesling, Resident Conductor of the Greensboro Symphony. In May of 2008, he graduated with a second Master’s Degree; Film Scoring from the North Carolina School of the Arts School of Filmmaking. Even before he finished his degree he started winning film-scoring jobs.
Most recently, Bruce wrote the score to “Cadence” for Greensboro’s 48 Hour Film Festival. Not only was this film voted “Best Film” of this year’s festival, but the score received the “Best Musical Score” award as well.
Not wasting a moment, Bruce is wrapping up final recording of his score for “A Noise of Many Waters” (winner of the Red Inkworks Screenwriting Competition) and has already begun his next score “Wesley.” This film is being produced by the Foundery Pictures of Winston-Salem and is in the final stages of post-production. It will feature a score for chamber orchestra recorded later this month. Following that, Bruce begins the score to the feature film “Foresight” produced by Dagtype Films. Looking further ahead, Bruce will provide music to the children’s fantasy story “Clarissa’s Quest” written and directed by Greensboro’s own Dan Kelly.
Recent projects include a documentary for the Hickory Museum of Art, the web-series "Forced to Protect," the pilot for the series "Raven Rock" and three book trailers for the Random House Video Book Awards. Bruce has also composed music for the trailer for the feature "Metal Detector," (2009) and many student films, including "Stormy Weather," “1915,” "Por Amor," and "Tommy's Chocolates." Two of these films were recently screened at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, CA as part of the 4th year screenings for the North Carolina School of the Arts. Scores for live theatrical performances include "On Golden Pond" at Triad Stage and "Swimming" off-Broadway in New York City.
