Ruben Christopher Studdard\u00a0<\/strong>rose to fame as winner of the\u00a0second season<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0American Idol <\/a><\/em>and received a\u00a0Grammy Award<\/a>\u00a0nomination in December 2003 for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for “Superstar”. In the years following\u00a0Idol<\/em>, Studdard has released six studio albums, including his platinum-selling debut,\u00a0Soulful<\/a><\/em>, and the top-selling gospel follow-up,\u00a0I Need an Angel<\/a><\/em>. He is most well-known for his recording career, which has produced hits including “Flying Without Wings”, “Sorry 2004”, and “Change Me”, but he has also segued into television and stage work. Most notably, he toured with\u00a0Robin Givens<\/a>\u00a0in the comedy-drama\u00a0I Need a Hug<\/em>\u00a0and in 2008 starred as\u00a0Fats Waller<\/a>\u00a0in a national tour revival of\u00a0Ain’t Misbehavin,<\/em>\u00a0which spawned a Grammy-nominated soundtrack. Studdard most recently appeared on the fifteenth season of\u00a0The Biggest Loser<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cRuben Sings Luther\u201d (a tribute to Luther Vandross) the album was re-released on October 23rd<\/sup>, 2019 and includes a new tune.\u00a0\u00a0 The album is available via all streaming and download platforms.\u00a0 \u201cRuben Sings Luther\u201d \u2013 the North American concert tour is on it\u2019s third national run.\u00a0 In November of 2019, Ruben returned back to Broadway stage with fellow American Idol finalist and best friend, Clay Aiken on their critically-acclaimed, \u201cRuben and Clay\u2019s First Annual Christmas Show\u201d.\u00a0 During American Idol, Studdard gained the nickname “Velvet Teddy Bear” and was noted for his shirts printed with “205”, the telephone area code of his hometown of Birmingham. Alabama Governor,\u00a0Bob Riley<\/a>\u00a0declared March 11, 2003 as “Ruben Studdard Day”.<\/p>\n\n\t
