Experience the monumental power of Verdi’s Requiem performed by the Greensboro Symphony with guest soloists and the Winston-Salem Symphony Chorus. A monumental work of drama and emotion, it’s a performance not to be missed!
About the guest artists:
Danielle Talamantes
Mexican-American soprano Danielle Talamantes has been praised for her “velvety, dark-hued soprano that has a limpid seductiveness” (Washington Post), a voice that has captivated audiences in opera houses and concert halls alike.
Talamantes is widely sought after for both operatic and concert repertoire. She has appeared with The Metropolitan Opera as Frasquita in Bizet’s Carmen and Anna in Verdi’s Nabucco, with Virginia Opera as Beatrice in Catán’s Il postino, and with Hawaii Opera Theater and Finger Lakes Opera as Violetta in La traviata. On the concert stage, recent engagements include Britten’s War Requiem with Opera Roanoke, Orff’s Carmina Burana with the National Philharmonic, and Verdi’s Requiem with the Pensacola Symphony.
Stephanie Foley Davis
Praised by The New York Times for her “poised, touching” performances and by Opera News as “warm of voice and presence,” mezzo-soprano Stephanie Foley Davis has established herself as a versatile and compelling artist on both the opera and concert stage.
In addition to her performing career, Foley Davis serves as Associate Director and Master Teacher at The Music Academy of North Carolina, where she has been a member of the voice faculty since 2011.
Ben Gulley
American tenor Ben Gulley has been hailed as “outstanding” (Opera News) and “startlingly gifted” (San Francisco Classical Voice). The award-winning artist’s recent seasons have included feature roles in opera, solo engagements, concert, film work, touring and important appearances abroad.
Gulley’s recent engagements season include Don José in Carmen with Knoxville Opera, Radames in Aida with Anchorage Opera, and Canio in Pagliacci with Opera San José and Opera Las Vegas, as well as concert appearances with the Lancaster Festival, Orchestra Miami, South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, and Symphony San Jose.
Richard Ollarsaba
Mexican-American bass-baritone Richard Ollarsaba has been praised by The Washington Post for his “meltingly smooth bass-baritone” and for “evoking a young Ruggero Raimondi in looks and manner.” A grand finalist in the 2013 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, he went on to represent the United States at the 2019 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition and was a member of the prestigious Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago for three seasons.
A native of Tempe, Arizona, Ollarsaba earned his Bachelor of Music at the Cleveland Institute of Music before completing his Master of Music and postgraduate certificate at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. His training also includes residencies at Minnesota Opera, Music Academy of the West, Chautauqua Opera, Aspen Music Festival, Tanglewood, and Wolf Trap Opera.
