Greensboro, NC – The Greensboro Symphony Orchestra (GSO) is thrilled to announce Caroline & Steven Tanger and Elizabeth & Kevin Phillips as the Honorary Chair couples for the GSO’s annual Name That Tune fundraiser for music education. Co-chairs for the event are Madison Carroll and Rena and Mark Watson. This year, the event will showcase the iconic music from Broadway musicals, such as Wicked, South Pacific, Hamilton, Evita, My Fair Lady, and more. This show- stopping evening will take place at the new home of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, March 27th, 2020 at 7:00 pm.
In 2013, Steven Tanger’s $7.5 million gift to the Greensboro Performing Arts Center was, and still is, the largest private donation toward the facility. This challenge grant to the City of Greensboro and The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro ignited a push to raise an even larger amount of money for the center to ensure its success. Phillips Foundation increased its gift to $5 million in 2016, ensuring noteworthy public art will be highlighted within this downtown destination. As the first, and one of the largest, private investors for this project, the 8,000- square-foot lobby will be named Phillips Hall in the Foundation’s honor.
All proceeds from Name That Tune go to support the Symphony’s education programs for over 50,000 children in 5 counties (Alamance, Davidson, Guilford, Randolph, and Rockingham). These programs help develop literacy skills, increase access to quality instruments & lessons, offer outreach for our most vulnerable, and provide inspiration for our entire community.
